Birthplace of democracy, a new democracy
he 1967 Greek coup d'état took place on 21 April 1967, just weeks before scheduled elections, when a group of right-wing army officers led by Brigadier General Stylianos Pattakos and Colonels George Papadopoulos and Nikolaos Makarezos seized power in a coup d'etat.[1] The colonels were able to seize power quickly by using elements of surprise and confusion. Two great film made in the 70's can be found on this blog http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/adamcurtis/posts/the_ghost_of_the_colonels
